"Day of Planting" in the Stromer Forest

Saturday, 21 April 2007, the sun was shining beautifully (not really liked by the forest owners because of the continuing dryness, though), 30 children and adults met at the "Sophienquelle" parking site. They gathered to dig out wild broadleaf seedlings and to move and re-plant them to another area due for afforestation. This allowed to close gaps having been caused by the storm "Kyrill" and the bark beetle. Attaching key labels of different colours allows the children to identfy "their" tree later on for observing the development. At noon all participants reconvened in best mood for feast and drink. Afterwards, some went home, others continued the planting work.
Meanwhile the "Day of Planting" has become a regular yearly event strongly supported by the indefatigable foresters of the trust, Burkhard Reuter and Siegfried Huber. In the long term this will lead to a more robust forest easier withstanding the impacts of the climate change.
